The Software Engineering Department (Turkish program) was established in 2014 within the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences at Sakarya University. In 2019, an English-language Software Engineering program was opened, and it was decided to admit students only to the English program starting in the Fall semester of 2020. Our department is the first state university Software Engineering department in Turkey to offer English-language education. Students enrolled in the department complete a preparatory program at our university's School of Foreign Languages. Students who successfully pass the language proficiency exam begin their studies in the department. Our curriculum and course content are updated annually based on feedback from internal and external stakeholders (https://ebs.sakarya.edu.tr/Birim/DersPlan/36849). Our department graduated its first students in the Spring semester of 2024.
In 2026, the Software Engineering Department underwent its first general evaluation with the MÜDEK (Engineering Education Programs Evaluation and Accreditation Association) Version 3.1 criteria. It is an independent and internationally recognized non-governmental organization that evaluates and accredits engineering undergraduate programs in Türkiye.
