Senior Project Report Preparation

A well-organized report will be a useful resource for those who are interested in the subject, as the project work will include the knowledge and experiences gained over a long period of study. For this reason, some rules should be considered in the preparation of the content of the report.

Preface

It is the section where the person who completed the study wrote his views independently of his technical and scientific content. The people and organizations that have received assistance should be thanked in this section. The person who completed his work can also thank his family and friends who support and help him.

Title

The title of the project work should be determined in such a way as to give the readers an idea about the subject. The title should not be too short or too long to distract. For example, “Data Mining” is a general title that cannot give sufficient insight into the finishing work, as there are multiple methods of data mining. “An Application in Classification with Decision Tree Techniques in Data Mining” is a complex title because it contains unnecessary words. “Decision trees in Data Mining” is a sufficient and understandable title to introduce the subject.

Summary

The most read sections of a project report are summary, introduction and conclusion sections. People who only want general information about the subject are mostly satisfied with reading these three sections. For this, the subject of the study and the important results obtained should be written repeatedly in the summary, introduction and conclusion sections.

The purpose of the summary is to ensure that the reader has a general idea of the subject of study. In the first paragraph of the abstract, the subject of study should be introduced. In other paragraphs, the scope and objectives of the study should be explained step by step, the methods used should be briefly introduced and the main results should be given.

The narration should be in a passive form such as “done, completed”.

Body of the Text

The study text should be divided into main sections to ensure that the reader can easily follow the project study and easily access the information of interest.

Introduction Section

The introductory section should contain sufficient basic information to enable the reader to understand and evaluate the study without having to read other publications on the subject, and briefly describe the need and purpose of the study. The reason for choosing this topic and why it is important should be well emphasized in the introduction.

The structure of the introduction should include the followings:

· Brief description of the study subject should be explained.

· If there is any preliminary information that should be known in order to understand the project study, it should be explained.

· If there are previous studies on the same subject, they should be explained and evaluated.

· The methods used in the study and the reason for choosing these methods should be explained.

Other Sections

The project study should be explained step by step without skipping important information. Generally, those who read the report, try to have an idea about that section by reading the first paragraph of each section. For this, the first paragraph of each section should outline the rest.

Expression should be strengthened with figures and tables in order to better evaluate and understand the project work. If the project study is an experimental study, the results obtained from the experiments should be given in tables and the evaluation of the results should be facilitated. Except for special cases, there should be an “Application” section in non-experimental finishing studies. In this section, how the implemented system is applied and the results obtained during the application phase should be explained. In the application section, it should be noted that the number of data is large enough to be generalized.

Conclusion Section

The conclusion section is the section where the results obtained from the conducted study are evaluated. The structure of this section should be:

· The subject of study should be defined and the methods used should be summarized.

· The results obtained should be expressed in clear and simple sentences.

· In experimental studies, the main results obtained from the evaluation of different experimental results should be explained and if possible, generalizations should be made according to these results.
